Flying Home for #TGIF150

Flying Home for #TGIF150

It feels soooo good to be crafting again. I had set a goal to blog weekly this year, but life took over. Well actually moving house took over. Boxes, packing, moving, unpacking, new routines, new places, new people. It has been all overwhelming. That is now starting to be behind me and I’m looking forward to more time being creative and sharing that creativity.

I’m quite excited that my first post since moving is a design challenge. This week’s TGIF Challenge (Thank Goodness Its Firsday) is a Sketch Challenge. What really attracted me to this challenge was the card shape. The new cute Whisper White Narrow Note Cards & Envelopes from Stampin’ Up!® have been so much fun. This challenge made me think, why not do a bigger narrow card? So here is the challenge sketch:

For this challenge I decided to make a pair of cards. One using the cute new Narrow Note Cards and one larger version. For the large card I cut my A4 card stock 210mm by 198mm and this gives me a card that would fit perfectly into a DL envelope. This is my entrance to the TGIF Sketch Challenge 150:

The Flying Home Stamp Set has really been calling to me lately. There’s something about it that makes me think of my life over the last few months and how moving house has been a huge deal for me. Lately I also have loved stamping clouds onto Soft Sky card stock from the Sunshine & Rainbows Stamp Set.

This Stamp Set is also fantastic for colouring with the new Stampin’ Blends. Now come to think of it, I’ve not used any other colouring option with this stamp set even though water colouring would look fantastic too.

For the decorative strip I used the divine Petal Pair Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. To me this folder looks like leaves and I love using Pear Pizzaz card stock with it.

I used the Starburst Punch to for the circular focal point as from the sketch. For the small card I cut Whisper White card stock and used a Sponge Daubler to colour it using Soft Sky ink from the Stampin’ Pad. This is a favourite technique of mine right now. I thought this would be good for the small card as its Whisper White.

Instead of the embellishments that are hinted in the sketch I used the cute little butterflies and bees from the Flying Home Stamp Set.

The cute birds are very spring and new life themed and I thought with Easter around the corner this card would be perfect for the occasion. The Happy Easter sentiment comes from the Sweet Little Something Stamp Set. I had so much fun colouring in with the Stampin’ Blends and creating these cards. The fussy cutting isn’t the more fun part but It certainly looks great in the end. I’m still unsure which version of fussy cutting I prefer – right on the stamped lines or around the lines with white cardstock showing. Which one do you prefer? Let me know in the comments below.
