Orchids are my favourite flowers. To me they’re exotic and mystical. I’ve tried to grow them over the years and never have lasted longer than two years. I was thrilled when Stampin’ Up!® released the Climbing Orchids stamp set. I could have orchids all year round!! Today’s card is one I made for my brother-in-law and his now wife for their wedding. Our sister-in-law also loves orchids, and she has a knack at growing them too.
I had a lot of fun creating these watercolour orchids for the card. There is a few layers of stamping to creating them but I personally think the effort is well worth it.
- Ink up the orchid flower parts stamps (there are two per orchid) form the Climbing Orchids stamp set in Berry Burst. Then before stamping spritz two or three times with water using the Stampin’ Spritzer. You want this layer to be runny. Stamp onto Watercolor Paper. Allow to dry a bit.
- Repeat above but this time spritz the stamp only once so that there is less water and more of a defined print when you stamp but still a bit runny. Stamp directly inline with the first stamp. Allow to dry.
- You want the stamped images in the above two steps to bleed.
- Stamp for the third time, again in Berry Burst but this time do not spritz. This layer of stamping will give you a more defined edge.
- Take the lip of the orchid stamp (the middle part of the orchid) and ink up in Daffodil Delight, spritz two times and stamp. Allow to dry.
- Take the same stamp as above and ink up in Daffodil Delight again, but before stamping add some Berry Burst to the edges using a Sponge Dauber. Stamp on top of previous stamp. Allow to dry.
- Using the lip detail stamp, ink in Berry Burst and stamp on top of the yellow.
- Cut out all of the parts using the Orchid Builder Framelits and your Big Shot.
- Assemble the orchids using glue dots.
- Adhere to a piece of card stock which has your sentiment. I chose a sentiment from a retired stamp set and I heat embossed it in gold.
- Mount onto a card base.
I had a lot of fun making this card. My fingers were a bit inky but I never mind when this happens. For me its a sign of a good time and fantastic stamping session.
Thank you for visiting my blog! I hope that I’ve inspired you to be creative.
Bye for now!

Just wondering which stamp set you used for the greeting? I know you said it was retired but still interested in. Which one it is.
