Last week was my daughter’s 5th birthday. She requested a unicorn for her birthday. Wasn’t sure how to find a REAL unicorn, but I knew that this card would be a great hit. It was kind of inspired by the 1980s kids’ show “Rainbow Bright” (which by the way I loved!).
I made this card to be A5 sized as I wanted it to be big and special for my little miss. I love being able to change the size of the card when ever I want!
The Sunshine & Rainbows Bundle just goes so well with the Magical Day Bundle! Both are currently on while supplies last and will be retiring on the 31st May 2018. I’ve had so much wonderful fun working with both of these bundles.
To create this card:
- Prepare card base by scoring in half a full A4 sheet of Whisper White Thick card stock.
- Cut a piece of Soft Sky card stock to 129.5mm x 190mm for the card front.
- Mount the rainbow stamps onto clear blocks by first putting them into the matching sized die so that when the arch is cut the lines match perfectly.
- Stamp the rainbows in the same colour ink as card stock. I used the following colours from largest to smallest:
- Real Red
- Pumpkin Pie
- Daffodil Delight
- Emerald Envy
- Pacific Point
- Berry Burts
- Using the Big Shot and the correct die cut out each of the rain bow arcs that you have stamped. Then cut a second set from each colour in the same size without the stamped image.
- Stamp using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink onto Shimmery White cardstock the Unicorn image.
- Colour the Unicorn mane and tail in the rainbow colours using an Aqua Painter.
- Lightly colour areas of the unicorn’s body that you would like to be a bit darker in Crumb Cake using the Aqua Painter.
- Using the unicorn die, cut out the unicorn and two clouds from the Shimmery White cardstock.
- Using the bigger cloud edge die, cut a piece of the Whisper White Glimmer Paper but angle the clouds. TIP: trim the Glimmer paper to 129.5mm, this is the same width as the Soft Sky card front piece.
- Using the same die, cut another cloud piece this time from Shimmery White card stock (again trim first to 129.5mm wide).
- Using the cloud stamp and Soft Sky ink, stamp it on the top half of the card front card stock. You can stamp twice before re-inking to get a variation of cloud colours.
- To assemble:
- Decide where you want the rainbow to go and start to glue down the rainbow arch that have no stamped images on it. TIP I found dotting some Liquid Multipurpose glue worked better than a line of the glue.
- Once all the rainbow is there, repeat with the stamped arch right on top. This gives the rainbow some depth and dimension.
- Glue one of the clouds to the bottom of the rainbow.
- Attach the Glimmer cloud underneath the rainbow so that it slightly overlaps the cloud you’ve just glued, first measure and trim it so it will not go beyond the Soft Sky card stock.
- Attach the Shimmery White big cloud to sit below the Glimmer one. Again trim it before gluing.
- Glue the second cloud to the other end of the rainbow overlapping the big cloud.
- Using Stampin’ Dimensionals, attach the unicorn so that it looks like its galloping across the rainbow.
- Stamp onto a strip of Soft Sky cardstock the sentiment in Soft Sky. Attach to card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals and add some Silver Mini Sequins behind some some extra bling!
- Attach card front the card base using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
What little girl (or big girl for that matter) doesn’t love a Rainbow and a Rainbow Unicorn?
Thank you for visiting my blog! I hope that I’ve inspired you to be creative.
Bye for now!
